About Sikkim

Sikkim is the next smallest state of India. It was ruled by the kings’ an independent monarchy, which is known by Chogyals till 1975, until it joined the Indian union. It is situated near the borders of Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet and west Bengal. Most of the Himalayan range covers the state territory. It ranges between 300 meters to 8583 meters and the highest peak is Mt. Kanchendzonga. It is the third highest peak in the world; it is also worshipped as the guardian deity of the state. 


The oldest inhabitants of Sikkim are believed to be Lepchas. Then it is came the Bhutias from the Tibet then they followed by Nepalis and some peoples from Indian plains. Now it is home to the Mahayana from Buddhism and their colorful Gompas , due to their Buddhist Monasteries, they are the major attraction of Sikkim. Among them Tashiding & Pemayangste monasteries in West Sikkim and Rumtek monastery near Gangtok are the most important. Due to this lot of tourist visit Sikkim every year and it has gain the popularity in the field of tourism in India. Sikkim holiday package also got famous for the tourism of north India.

In Sikkim, Gangtok is the main city and also the state capital. It is a beautiful city with snow covered mountains. Wonderful gardens and not to forgot peaceful monasteries. Gangtok is a perfect city to start your tour of Sikkim it is situated in the northern side of the state. You can find many tourist places here and many which are approachable from Gangtok. The famous Tsongo Lake which is situated at the height of 3720 meters above sea level, during winters its gets frozen and it is popular among tourists. The Chinese border at Nathula Pass is close by to the city.


Another city which is popular is Pelling, it is located in western side of Sikkim and is a popular tourist spot. Sikkim also houses Kanchendzonga National Park which is very famous throughout India. It is a habitat for the snow leopard, Tibetan antelope, and red panda.


If you plan to visit around some of these months then you can enjoy some of the major festival of Sikkim. If you are foreign tourist then you have to obtain inner line permit. You can easily get it from any of the Indian missions and tourism offices, which are situated one at Delhi and one at Calcutta.

So you can surely plan a wonderful trip to Sikkim with your family and friends.

  2. I feel more energized when I'm not travelling and have the chance to lose weight by exercise bike. Jogging is my favourite way of burning calories but riding an upright bike also helps me stay thin!
